Job Context
The Advanced Network Technology Center (ANTC) is a grant funded organization at the University of Oregon. A key resource supported by ANTC is the Route Views project. Route Views is one of the worlds leading archives of global routing data.
The Network Engineer and Systems Manager will provide technical support for all aspects of ANTC operations, including the Route Views project.
This position reports directly to the Director of the Advanced Network Technology Center. This is a grant funded 2-year fixed-term appointment. The appointment may be renewable based on continued funding.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides technical support, research, and development for Route Views including development of new and novel storage techniques, development of visualization software, maintenance of existing equipment and systems, and grant writing assistance.
- Plans, develops, and implements network and systems management strategies, applications, and facilities to support Route Views.
- Provides technical and user support documentation for Route Views.
- Plans, develops, and implements Unix and network services critical to the operation of Route Views.
- Plans, develops, and implements applications that facilitate the use of Route Views data by both the network research community as well as network operators.
- Maintains a high level of professional expertise in emerging network technologies.
- Attends relevant professional conferences and standards forums, presenting and publishing his or her findings and research results in professional literature.
- Plans, develops, and implements new advanced networking projects.
- Provides support after hours and weekend via on-call coverage for Route Views
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Communications Engineering or applicable field from an accredited educational institution.
- Two years full time work experience as a UNIX administrator.
- Knowledge of and experience with large-scale storage environments.
- Two years programming experience in C or C++ in a systems administration environment.
- Strong fluency in PERL.
- Consulting experience in a University or other academic and research environment.
- Proven skills in technical writing, verbal communications, consulting, teaching, problem solving, and have the ability to work with minimal supervision, either independently or as part of a team in a rapidly changing technical environment.
- U.S. citizenship (or eligibility for employment under prevailing U.S. immigration laws).
Desirable qualifications:
- Understanding of BGP, zebra, and the global routing system.
- Candidates with experience serving the needs of diverse populations are strongly desired.
