If you're interested in protecting your laptop or other valuable electronic
equipment, you'll probably want to investigate S.T.O.P security plates. S.T.O.P.
is a highly effective theft prevention tracking system that imprints your equipment
with a scannable bar code and uses an international registry for recovery.
The UO's Department of Public Safety is now selling S.T.O.P. at cost to UO students, faculty, and staff. You can purchase the plates, which normally retail for $25, for $17.50 by going to the Public Safety office at 1319 E. 15th Avenue, diagonally across the street from the Student Recreation Center.
