Remember: It's Time to Replace
Obsolete Windows Systems!
Microsoft has discontinued support and/or critical security updates for systems
prior to Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server; the only way to stay secure is
to upgrade
If you're using an older version of the Windows operating system (3.11/95/98/98SE/ME/NT
Workstation 4.0), you are increasingly vulnerable to malware circulating on the
Internet. Systems prior to Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server are no longer supported
by Microsoft, which means that you will not have access to critical security
updates. Without vendor support to patch bugs and vulnerabilities, you simply
cannot safely continue to allow an older system to be connected to the Internet.
You should also be aware that the Fall 2006 Windows Duckware and associated
software, which is distributed free to faculty, staff, and students each year,
will not support obsolete versions of Microsoft Windows.
If you're running Microsoft Windows, you should be running Windows XP
or Windows 2003 Server at this time. The next generation of Windows, Microsoft
Vista, will not be available for business users until November 2006, and the
broad base of consumers must wait until January 2007 to buy it.
