New web tools have made it easy for people who were once simply consumers of web content to become creators as well. Without any special skills, people can now post their opinions on blogs, add information to wikis, and put their photos on Flickr. If you're an educator who's been wondering what the newer web tools could add to your classroom, sample some of the books listed below. They may inspire you to try something new.

Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms
By Will Richardson
Richardson is excited about what he calls "the read/write web" and his enthusiasm is contagious. In this book he speaks directly to teachers as he introduces each tool and shows how innovative educators have used them to engage and motivate students.

Publishing a Blog with Blogger
By Elizabeth Castro
With big color photos and clear step-by-step directions, this slim little volume really can get you blogging fast. Castro begins with setting up an account at Google's free blogger.com, guides you through your first post, and then goes on to more advanced topics like adding photos and audio files.

Podcast Solutions
By Michael W. Geoghegan and Dan Klass
If you're thinking of podcasting, start here and let two pioneers tell you how to do it right. Geohegan and Klass write with insight and cover all the bases, from setting up your studio and designing a quality show, to finding your audience.

Flickr Hacks
By Paul Bausch and Jim Bumgardner
The popular photo-sharing website lets users post, organize, and tag their photos--but that's just the beginning. The authors give you the basics and then present some advanced hacks, such as sending photos from your camera phone, creating collages, and other custom applications.

These books are available in the Documents Room Library. Call 346-4406 for more information, or visit our website at http://docsrm.uoregon.edu/
