From June 19 to 21, the University of Oregon hosted an IP multicast workshop
at the UO Computing Center.
The workshop, which was set up to instruct participants in designing and constructing
a set of interconnected multicast networks, covered such topics as router configuration,
multicast addressing, network protocols, and SSM (Source Specific Multicast).
Instructors Greg Shepherd of Juniper Networks and Beau Williamson of Cisco Systems
guided students through a set of intensive hands-on exercises intended to help
them attain the ability to independently engineer multicast networks within
their own campuses or gigaPoPs.
Nearly 30 attendees--including some from as far away as Buenos Aires, Bankok, and the U.K.--signed up for the workshop, which was made possible by contributions from the University of Oregon, Juniper Networks, and Cisco Systems.
