Library Now Offers Secure Online Connections to Your Patron Information

With a recent upgrade in software, all UO libraries now offer secure connections to patron information contained in the library's online catalog.

The required information to login to a library account--name, UO ID and Library PIN--is now encrypted when it is passed to the library's catalog server. Students, faculty, and staff can log in to their library account to see what books they have checked out, renew books, and change personal information such as address, phone number, and email address.

Catalog searches done after logging into your patron account are also secure, as are interlibrary loan requests placed through the library catalog.

If you access your library patron account from a workstation that may be used by others, it is best to exit or quit all web browser sessions and windows when you are finished to protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized use of your ID.

The secure connection is available only in the web-based version of the library's online catalog. The telnet or character-based version of the catalog is unable to offer this functionality. The library's proxy server also offers secure connections for students and faculty using licensed resources from off-campus.
