Wondering How to Really Get Rid of Messages in Gladstone/Darkwing Web-based Email?

By now many of you are familiar with UO Web Email (http://email.uoregon.edu), the encrypted webmail option that makes it easy to access your email account securely from any networked computer.

Although the IMHO web-based email system for Gladstone and Darkwing can be easy to use, deleting your unwanted email messages (and having them purged from the mail host as well) is a little less intuitive. Follow steps 1-5 below to get rid of your unwanted email.

Deleting Messages:

the Darkwing Web Email Inbox
1. In the Inbox folder view (or any of the email folders), click in the checkbox to the left of the message. This selects the message for subsequent actions.

2. Click on the "Move marked to trash" button below the email list. This will move your marked email to the Trash folder, a temporary holding space for deleted email.

3. Once you've moved all the email you'd like to delete to the Trash, click the Mailboxes link on the far left of the page.

Emptying the Trash Can:

4. Click on the Trash link (the word itself, not the checkbox.) The checkbox selects the folder for further action; the word itself is a link to the Trash folder view shown below.

5. Once in the Trash folder view, the buttons "Delete ALL trash" and "Delete marked" are available. The "Delete ALL trash" button will completely clear your trashed files. This is more than likely the option you need. Once your files are deleted, you'll have more space available and you may continue reading your email.
