This year you may expect to see new wireless ethernet cards on the market that
promise to be the only card you'll need to connect to wireless device networks
as well as 802.11b local wireless networks.
Whereas laptops and PDAs (personal digital assistants) usually need small separate
wireless ethernet cards for both 802.11 and Bluetooth, the new technology makes
it possible to use one card for all connections.
Handset manufacturing giant Nokia already has introduced its version of the
hybrid, and GTran Wireless is coming out with its hybrid later this year. California-based
chip maker Intersil has also announced the development of a hybrid card that
can access 802.11 networks and connect devices to each other using the Bluetooth
radio frequency communication standard.
