Dell Recalls Thousands of Defective Notebook Batteries

On May 3, Dell recalled nearly 300,000 batteries used in its Inspiron 5000 and 5000e notebook computers. The defective batteries can overheat and may catch fire.

The recalled batteries were shipped to customers between Jan. 7, 2000 and March 21, 2001.

If you own an Inspiron 5000 or 5000e series notebook, you're advised to remove the battery from the unit and consult the "Battery Recall Program" section of Dell's web site at http://support.dell.com/I5000Battery/ to see if the battery is part of the recall.
