Intel Plans new Chip Manufacturing Plant in Oregon

Anticipating future demand, Intel Corporation is planning to build a $2 billion chip-manufacturing plant in Oregon this summer.

When completed, the three-story, 175,000-square-foot facility will likely add up to 3,000 jobs in the area. Currently, its Oregon facilities employ about 16,000 workers. The new plant, known as D1D, will make chips on 300 mm silicon wafers that have 225 percent more surface area than the current standard.
