Wireless Networking Update

Look for improved performance and expanded coverage when you return to campus this fall

Users returning to campus will find a number of changes associated with our campus wireless network.

One of the major changes is evident only in better, more reliable network performance. To achieve this, we have replaced the underlying equipment that provides authentication services for wireless.

When you connect and start up a web browser, you should still see the familiar green "splash page" that tells you that you are connected and need to authenticate. Everything looks and feels the same, but you should experience improved performance.

You’ll also notice that wireless connectivity is more widely available on campus. In the past year we have added coverage to the UO Bookstore, Villard, PLC, Condon, Deady, Fenton, Rainier, Bean, Walton, Huestis, Casanova, Oregon Hall, Art Museum, Many Nations Longhouse, Museum of Natural History, Collier House, Riley Hall, Friendly, Bowerman, Cascade, and Clinical Services.

In the coming year we will be continuing to expand wireless coverage. This effort will focus primarily on improving coverage in buildings that have some, but not full, coverage. Please share any thoughts or ideas you have for expanding wireless coverage with Dale Smith ( 346-1745, dsmith@uoregon.edu ).
