The University of Oregon recently accepted an invitation to become a member of The Quilt, a UCAID (University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development) project that works to support research and education in the U.S.
The project's mission and goals are directed by EDUCAUSE, a group of more than 1,800 colleges, universities, and education organizations that promotes the use of information technology in education, and SURA, the Southeastern Research Universities Association. Its specific aim is to provide advanced network services to the broadest possible research and educational community by ensuring efficient, cost-effective network services and representing the group's common interests to government and industry organizations involved in network development and delivery.
