How to Monitor Your Disk Quota

By Lucy Lynch (llynch@darkwing.uoregon.edu)

When your DARKWING or GLADSTONE account is created, you're allotted a set amount of disk storage space, or quota. This space is used for mail and other files (e.g., HTML and data files, images, etc.).

When your quota is filled, you won't be able to create any new files or receive new email. If you're an active UNIX system user, you'll want to keep an eye on your available space using the quota -v command. However, if you never log in on DARKWING or GLADSTONE directly, you may not know you've exceeded your quota until email stops arriving in your INBOX.

One useful account management trick is to automatically check your account quota once a week by going to https://password.uoregon.edu/quota/
