Recently, many campus administrators have been asking how much longer the ccMail system will continue to run.
The plan is as follows: As of July 1, 1999, the ccMail routers will be shut down permanently. By that time, all UO departments should have a new system in place for sending and receiving electronic mail.
No mail will be delivered to the individual post offices starting July 1. The main post office running on Zeus and the ccMail gateway will continue to run until they die a slow death on January 1, 2000.
This means that for the period from July 1 to December 31, 1999, the ccMail system will not be operational but will continue to forward mail for those users who have had an alias created on the hub post office.
After December 31, 1999, mail sent to users@ccmail.uoregon.edu will bounce. Many departments have already finished their email migration and others are near completion. This announcement should give those of you who are still working on a solution a timeline so that you can better plan and implement a migration strategy.
